McIndoe, Archibald

McIndoe, Archibald
1900–1960
McIndoe was a New Zealand surgeon who developed advanced techniques for treating bad burns and disfigurements. He began to work with RAF pilots who had been burnt during the Battle of Britain and through plastic surgery was able to repair their physical damage. McIndoe however was also concerned with their mental health and rehabilitation and he insisted that the ninety-day rule which invalided men out of the service after ninety days should be abolished.
